Leisure Suit Larry: Wet Dreams Don’t Dry Review

The Man, the Myth, the Legend, Larry Laffer has some how found his way into the the 21st century and he’s brought along that Laffer charm and charisma that gets all the girls, and boys, right in their feels. By that, we mean hearts. But does Larry’s one liners and zingers hold any place in today’s sensitive sensibilities or would it have been better to just leave this one back in the past where it belongs with the rest of the other forgettable nostalgia? This is our review of Leisure Suit Larry: Wet Dreams Don’t Dry (PC).Story/GameplayEverything starts is the dark, what a sweet way to begin, with Larry waking up from the 1980’s to some how being in 2018. For being locked away for some thirty plus years, Larry sure looks good.  Larry is still Larry, in his tell tale white polyester cheap suit and even cheaper, cheesier one liners, and now he has to some how fit into a world that has obviously changed. After Larry comes across a woman in a bar who is just glued to her phone and followers, he can’t seem to grasp why she is constantly talking to a strange device and ignoring him. This is the first sign to Larry that things just aren’t how he remembers them to be. Luckily, Larry’s good ole friend Lefty, the bartender, is there to help catch him up on the ways things have changed. After that, a trip to the rest room, Larry finds the super hi tech prototype “PiPhone” made by the software and hardware company Prune Incorporated. The phone knows it’s lost and demands Larry to it back to its makers or it will self destruct. Of course, because it is the latest technologically advance smart phone, it is able to use the “Unter” app to take Larry to Prune headquarters. At Prune headquarters, Larry meets the head of Prune, BJ (Bill Jobs), and his right hand exec Faith, who Larry falls head over heels for. This is where the adventure truly begins. Faith makes a deal with Larry, that if he scores the highest on the PiPhone’s premeire dating app “Timber”, then she will go out on a date with him. How can he do this, well by dating as many matching on Timber. One catch, Larry has no idea how to use a smart phone much less use dating apps. This is where the fun and laughs begin.Leisure Suit Larry: Wet Dreams Don’t Dry is a good ole point and click adventure game. The game is full of in your face, tongue in cheek, dad jokes, cringe that every time you hear or see them, you immediately roll your eyes while trying to conceal a smile and a chuckle. In this point and click adventure, you are tasked with helping and number of your matches from the Timber dating app, which has you travel all over the map of New Los Wages. Like in any point and click game, you go around clicking and collecting various items to solve a puzzle. Some items might need to be combined with other items in order to create a new item. Some of the puzzles in Leisure Suit Larry: Wet Dreams Don’t Dry were quite simple, some quite clever, while some was straight out of, wait what?!Then there were the items collected. Usually in a point and click game, the items you collect and limited to an amount at one time and the usage of the items is usually within the vicinity. Not so much in Leisure Suit Larry: Wet Dreams Don’t Dry. There were points where our items were so many, we had to scroll pass three rows and then we would just plum forget what we found or where we found it. It didn’t stop us from completing the puzzle, but it definitely added to how long it took.GraphicsLeisure Suit Larry: Wet Dreams Don’t Dry is hand drawn and bright and looks really good. Colors are vibrant. Each location from the bar to the sex shop to the upstairs bedroom has its own character. The matches and characters you interact with each has their own spirit. The stage design really encourages you to explore every inch to find hidden items.SoundThe sound in Leisure Suit Larry: Wet Dreams Don’t Dry is simple and basic. Some of the dialogue can come across as really cringey and just off, but some how it fits the over all theme of the game. All in all, Leisure Suit Larry: Wet Dreams Don’t Dry is a simple point and click adventure game. It doesn’t take itself serious in any manner and still puts forth a decent story and at times does decide to take the side road and take you down a path of what in the world is going on, just for a chuckle. In this day and age when we have access to way more raunchy things on the television and internet, Leisure Suit Larry: Wet Dreams Don’t Dry is really tame and does bring back those nostalgic feelings.https://youtu.be/wSr393ccwf4
