E3 2019 will be a little lighter when it comes to its tell tale press conferences as today numerous of sites are reporting that industry giant Sony will not be holding an E3 2019 press conference.
While this indeed is HUGE news, especially since Sony has been there from the start, let’s remember Nintendo hasn’t had an E3 press conference in like five or so years, opting to hold its own Nintendo Direct, which has been arguably quite successful in dispersing their message and focus. Also EA had opted to do their own thing along with some other developers.
Sony in a statement said, “As the industry evolves, Sony Interactive Entertainment continues to look for inventive opportunities to engage the community. PlayStation fans mean the world to us and we always want to innovate, think differently and experiment with new ways to delight gamers. As a result, we have decided not to participate in E3 in 2019. We are exploring new and familiar ways to engage our community in 2019 and can’t wait to share our plans with you.”
Is this move necessarily a bad thing for Sony? What does it mean?Think about it. Sony PlayStation has some high caliber games set in its pipeline for 2019 and beyond. Games The Last of Us Part 2, Days Gone, Death Stranding, Ghost of Tsushima, to name a few. This move to take full control of showing the message is perfect. Who really needs who? Does PlayStation need E3 or is it visa versa? Sony can still have a presence there at the convention, just not a press conference. Another thing on the horizon, the PlayStation 5 which many are speculating being released in 2020.It looks like Sony is really positioning itself to make some waves. Sure, when Nintendo backed out of the E3 Press Conferences, there were some uproar, but again, it has done nothing but good for Nintendo. This is Sony we are talking about! There’s going to be some serious waves next year. Count on it!
