Coffee Talk is not your typically fight and defend experience but a game more about listening to your friends’ and customer’s problems and helping them by serving up a warm drink or two out of the ingredients you have in stock.

Set in a fantasy world of vampires, elves, succubus and more you are the owner and barista of a friendly Coffee shop that is only open at night and for customers who just need a safe space to relax and share. Coffee Talk is not your typically fight and defend experience but a game more about listening to your friends’ and customer’s problems and helping them by serving up a warm drink or two out of the ingredients you have in stock. Again, meeting my need for a quiet re-entry into the gaming realm, Coffee Talk was just the experience I needed.

Coffee Talk is a relaxing experience that requires no extensive interaction other than moving the story along as well as preparing the various beverages your customers need. The trick is to note that the story line does alter based on your actions. Branching story lines are note created by the decisions from the dialogue options you choose, but rather through how you treat and serve the customers. The better you prepare their drink the more they open up and share with you. This is where I slightly struggled because for the life of me I could never produce a very pretty Latte Art design.

Despite their otherworldly existence, the experiences that these characters share with the barista are very much akin to obstacles and pressures we all face today as regular humans. You may find yourself relating to some of the characters at different levels. You will find yourself growing familiar with the characters as they share their experiences and concerns.

In addition to the creative combinations of drinks you can prepare, another area of the game that you can control is the music. There is a selection of jazzy and lo-fi music that accompanies the late night warm drinks and talks activities and these you can control as you like. There are a few options, all of which really fit the atmosphere of the game.

In the end I was really glad I got to watch these stories unfold and prepare some drinks along the way. Certainly recommend you give Coffee Talk a try if you are interested in a new quiet experience.
